Doesn't look too bad,
Day 43 and I took my first step UP!
Yup, looking pretty much the same.

Things To Do When You Can't Walk, Drive Or Work

Pretend to ride a horse

remember when you actually could
You have to make the most of it. When you're facing being stuck for 8 weeks or even more than that, you'll have to find ways to fill your time. I've made this blog so you can see what you'll be up against. This is not a typical surgery and most surgeons would be hard pressed to even do it. Drop me a line if you've gone through this or going to.
Thanks for reading.

Reading? Did I say reading? You'll find yourself with lots of time for that too. One of my favorite authors is Stephen King. I happily read his entire collection.

Week Six Already

Day 38 and I can finally stand up at PT!
Still using my ice machine after all this time.
Uh, could you quit that please?
lol, this is day 40

Wall Slides

Use your other leg to push it back up straight.
See how far you can bend it??
Start here. Go easy now. Inch by inch let it go down but have your other leg ready to help.
When you have a PCL surgery, you can't use your hamstring muscle. So how do you get flexibity? Great creative!! You can use the wall and let gravity help you bend your knee with much less strain and if done correctly keeps the hamstring out completely. Use the opposite leg to help you get your knee straight again.

This is week five and I'm not much further than I was at week one. Last measurement was 95 after much straining in PT. The good news is my knee is pretty straight. The bending will come in time.

Todays Doctor Visit

Day 33
Day 33 and really sick of this brace
Day 34 at PT, looks really good here!
Day 34 and got the news!!
Oh wow, I went to see my surgeon today and he lowered the bomb on me. Another month of crutches and absolutely no driving. The good news is I get measured for a new brace. One that isn't so heavy and big. I can't wait to see it!

No weight on my knee

No bending of the knee unless I'm in PT

Four weeks to get 120 degrees.

No hamstring strength training

Pretty much all the same stuff I've been doing except I'll be pushing to bend my knee further.

PT still hurts like crazy.

My knee looks better but I'm having pain deep inside close to the bone. Weird feeling but very normal.

Day 31

Straighten knee and press foot down 30 times. Who would have ever thought one pound would be so heavy?
Exercise 3X day, every single day.
My favorite part, ICE!

Can't hardly believe it's been 31 days since my surgery. Went to PT today and was able to bend 89 degrees but no further. Having lots of pain inside the knee on the bone. I guess that's a good sign, as it's healing.

Week Four

It must be changing on the inside because I don't see much of a difference. This is day 26.
This is harder than it looks!

The good ole Jane Fonda move! Hey whatever works eh??

Week four felt like my biggest challenge so far. I guess it's because everyone including me thought I would be/should be further in my rehad. Yesterday was a melt down of frustration and tears. Today seems to be better. Looking back on the pictures I guess I'm doing better than I thought. The exercises are a challenge but every step gets me closer to running and back to my normal stuff.

I'm bored and it's only day 21

I'm still wearing my huge brace except when I work on range of motion. Oh one thing they probably didn't tell you is you have to move your knee cap back and forth three times a day to lessen scar tissue. I don't know about you that grosses me out to the max. I'm doing these Jane Fonda leg raises and might even graduate to doing something standing next week. Stay tuned for more fun.

Day 15

Watch out, here I come!!

Day 15 and spring is in the air. Found these flowers at the side of the house. They're called Blue Bells.

I'm still trapped by this huge leg brace and getting anxious to get out and about. I thought about dumping all the milk down the drain so I could at least ride along in the car to get some more. Didn't work though as we have our grocery shopping to do on saturday. I just hope there's one motorized scooter left so I can zip around the store and maybe knock down a display or two.

The physical therapy part is hard. My quad muscle is all but gone and my leg is getting smaller. We're still working on range of motion and my goal is to reach 90 degrees in the next three weeks. I got it to bend at 73 degrees this morning. The reps are high and sets of only three but by the time I get to 15 my leg is very tired. I'm shocked at how fast the muscle goes away.
